Film is a mixed-media series developed from old family photographs, childhood memories, and the material language of photographic slides.
The series includes three works: Sweet Dream, Community, and Sunny Day. Across different formats: acrylic light installation, printed image, and moving image, the works explore the fragile emotional space between family intimacy and family tension. Inspired by the glow of old photo slides and the partial visibility of memory, the images hold figures as bright silhouettes, simultaneously present and absent...
The project began with my interest in East Asian family relationships, particularly the quiet conflicts and reconciliations within parent-child dynamics. By layering acrylic sheets, film paper, light, and moving images, Film transforms private family photographs into luminous emotional objects.
The works have been presented in multiple exhibition formats, including a mixed-media installation at the 2024 Venice International Art Fair. The moving-image and printed-image versions were later exhibited at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (Beijing), the Shanghai Mental Health Center, and the “Free Youth” Charity Exhibition (Spring, 2026), organized by the Han Hong Love Charity Foundation and Ant Foundation at Alibaba Center in Hangzhou.
